Lucky

Lucky is 4 years old and he also found us. His name is what he is, Lucky. About a year after my father passed away, we decided to sell my parents' house to some of their friends. We were at the house, cleaning and packing, getting it ready for them to move in. We were just about finished and was taking a break to cook supper. The grill was under the carport, so my husband, Lee, went to move the truck. He got into it, started to back up, and I screamed for him to stop when I saw something small, black and furry run out from under the truck. When we looked into the corner, there was a black ball of fur. I wanted him right away--he was so tiny and cute.

We checked him over and his belly seemed to be swollen. Lee said, "Let's name him Lucky. He's lucky I didn't run over him, and he's lucky he's a boy or we wouldn't keep him." And Lucky has been "lucky" ever since. We brought him home and immediately took him to the vet. He had a bad case of worms, but other than that he was in perfect health.

He's nothing of what he looks like. Many people say he looks like a mean dog, but he's the opposite--fun loving. Lucky loves children and to run and play with them, and he's afraid of loud noises and fire. I'm not sure if something happened to him before we got him, but he's always been like this. He used to not even come in when the wood heater was on and especially if the doors were open on it.

His tongue is so long and black, and he loves to wash the bottom of my feet, and my legs if I have lotion on. What is it with lotion and dogs? He used to like to run off a lot. Once he was gone for three days and couldn't find him anywhere. My neighbor saw him playing with some kids and other dogs. We found him, took him home and he was starved. Lucky doesn't fight, not even for food.

Since we had him neutered, he's been better about sticking around the house. If he does go for a walk, it isn't far. He was also bad about tearing and chewing stuff. He pulled up a number of shrubs and some indoor/outdoor carpet off our front porch.

Lucky grew up so fast that I don't think I have any pictures of him when he was small, but when I get a chance I'll look for some. I know we videoed him when we first got him. He was so tiny one day, and almost full grown the next. But here are some recent pictures.

Update: I did find one of him when he was just a pup, and it's in this bunch.
